The online mastering process is very simple.

First you or your mixing engineer will read the mastering preparation document. This document explains how your tracks should be prepared and uploaded and what other information should be included.

Once your music is successfully uploaded it will be listed to, and made sure it is ready for the mastering session. If everything is good a sample of one of the songs will be given at no charge. The sample will show then general idea of how the rest of the tracks will sound. Once approved payment is taken and the rest of the music is mastered.

Lastly a continuous play, Mp3, or full quality ALAC or FLAC is created showing you the the flow or spacing and the sound of the record. Once approved your master CDs are burned and mailed off.

    You will receive:
    Master CD
    Backup of Master CD
Data Cd of high quality 256kbs mp3s and any other included or requested data.
You will also be emailed a link to download that same data mentioned above.

The process is very straight forward and simple.
Sending all audio tracks in a archive. i.e. .zip, .dmg. sit, .rar.

File Format: AIFF, WAV, SDII, CAF Resolution: 44.1khz - 96khz
    Bit Depth: 16 bit - 24bit. 24bit is preferred

    No processing the master output:
It is suggested that you have no compression or limiting on the master output when creating your stereo mix. In some cases slight amounts of compression can be used for “glue”, but please do not go overboard.

    Headroom:
Please leave ample headroom. Peaks between -6 dBFS and -3 dBFS are suggested. If you are clipping the master output it is ok to simply pull down the master fader until your highest peaks are between -6 dBFS and - 3 dBFS.

    Dithering, Noise Shaping and Normalizing:
Ensure that your final bounce contains NO Dithering or Noise Shaping of any kind. And please DO NOT Normalize your mix.

    Listen to your final mixes:
With a clear head and a pair of headphones listen to your mixes for clicks, pops or artifacts of any kind. Make sure sure everything is playing back as expected.

    Song order:
Please include a list of the song titles and the order you would like them on the record. Please also include any thoughts on pauses, crossfades/segues, or bonus tracks.

Consolidated audio: For sessions I accept exported or consolidated audio files for each track, all starting at the same time, so they can easily be imported lined up. Sending the project folder with all included audio tracks in a archive. i.e. .zip, .dmg. sit, .rar.

I generally mix in Logic Pro. If your projects where recorded in Logic Pro, Logic Express or Garage band, consolidate your audio tracks and save as. Sending the project folder with all included audio tracks in a archive. i.e. .zip, .dmg. sit, .rar.

File Format: AIFF, WAV, SDII, CAF Resolution: 44.1khz - 96khz Bit Depth: 16 bit - 24bit. tracking in 24bit is preferred Export all tracks with the same starting point: This is the most important aspect of sending your tracks in for mixing. Outlined in the Consolidating Your Audio in Various DAWS.

Before consolidating your files: make sure you've done all the necessary edits, and DON'T FORGET TO ADD YOUR CROSSFADES. Forgetting those crossfades can cause all sorts of nasty clicks and pops which are impossible to remove once the audio has been consolidated.

Clearly label ALL tracks: Name tracks after the instrument. Example: Kick drum In, Kick Drum out, Snare Top, Snare Bottom, Lead Vocal, Backing Vocal, Bass DI, Bass Cab, GTR_L, GTR_R, GTR Lead.. etc.

RAW tracks please: When exporting or saving your tracks/song ensure that there is no processing done. Remove all panning, automation, effects, eqs and compression. Set all faders to the 0db point.

Effects: If you've created any special effects, volume rides, or other processing that you feel is necessary to the production, please include that processing as one file, as well as the "dry" (unprocessed) audio as another file. Label the “effect” file as (filename_EFFECTS.aif)

Reference Mix: Please included a reference mix in each song folder that includes all envisioned effects and mix concepts for each song. A simple stereo mix will do just fine, not need to go overboard.

Uploading: When uploading your song(s) with the upload tool, attach one song at a time. The upload tool has a per file limit of 975MB. Understand that multiple files can be attached at the same time for uploading but no individual file can exceed 975MB.

PLEASE NOTE: after attaching your files and clicking the “Upload Files”, uploading takes a moment to start, up to one min so be patient your files will begin to upload soon.

    Upload Tool Trouble Shooting:

The studio upload tool is an easy straight forward tool for uploading your tracks. Here are a few things you need to watch out for to ensure a trouble free upload.

While uploading files be sure your computer does not go to sleep. Go into your system preferences or control panel and be sure to set your computer to not sleep. Your display can sleep, just not the computer itself.

As long as the upload window is open, you may continue to surf the internet in another browser window. It is suggested you use a current modern browser. i.e.: Internet Explorer 8, Fire Fox 3.5, Safari 4. You should have no problem using either Windows or Macintosh operating systems.

    Other file uploading options:

We offer standard FTP uploads via your FTP Client of choice. If this is needed please contact the studio for FTP login information. Standard FTP uploading has no file limit unlike the 975MB of the studio upload tool.
